Lenz recently coordinated the press launch for the largest independent book festival in the country, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival presented by DeKalb Medical (DBF), at Eddie's Attic in downtown Decatur.

Approximately 80 people — including reporters, photographers, editors, bloggers, bookstore owners, librarians, and authors — crowded the historic music venue for the 2009 poster unveiling, keynote speaker announcement, and a rundown of featured authors and new events.

"I'm very proud of the efforts of our team," said Richard Lenz, Founder, President, and CEO of Lenz. "The success of the launch is a classic example of our ability to attract positive publicity through a fusion of both conventional and innovative methods."

The 2009 festival is Labor Day weekend, September 4-6, on the downtown Decatur Square.

The launch was made possible by countless hours of collaboration between Daren Wang, DBF's Executive Director, Tom Bell, DBF's Program Director, and the Lenz staff. Press kits were painstakingly crafted and assembled, media outlets were targeted and invited, and RSVPs were coordinated and tracked.

Lenz had to be flexible and efficient, as some major elements of the festival were not locked down until noon the day of the launch, including the keynote speaker. Last minute changes were made before press runs as unexpected author and event confirmations trickled in. Amidst the flurry of activity, arrangements were made for an article to run in the AJC the following day to inform the general public of the information released in the launch. Printed on the front page of the Living section above the fold, the article featured a reprint of the 2009 poster, which was designed by Lenz Art Director Scott Sanders.

A unique aspect of this year's launch was that attendees were allowed to choose titles for their home libraries from stacks of free books as Caroline Herring, rising local singer/songwriter, closed the event with three musical selections.

The impressive turnout and the excitement surrounding the festival highlights pronounced the event a definite success.

Lenz would like to thank all who attended and helped with the launch, with a special thanks to Bob Ephlan and Eddie Owen of Eddie's Attic for hosting the event.
